Health Screen First is an independent private healthcare company who specialise in providing screening for conditions where early detection to identify those at risk can prompt life-saving action and treatment.
Where possible we conduct our screening clinics through NHS GP surgeries because we believe that this environment provides patients, doctors and the practice with the ideal combination to support patient choice: a professional service conducted in a familiar and respected environment. We also conduct screenings at hospitals, clinics, health and fitness clubs.
In the last five years we have screened over fifty thousand people for heart disease, risk of stroke, abdominal aortic aneurysm, ovarian cancer, bowel cancer and osteoporosis fracture risk.
Our positive approach to healthcare
We believe that prevention is the key to helping you stay fit and healthy. Our aim is to provide screening tests that are supported by sound clinical evidence and which are affordable by all who elect to invest in their health and wellbeing. We fully support the role of the NHS as a universal provider of UK healthcare but recognise that its role is currently limited when offering preventative screening.
In the case of heart disease, for example, 60 per cent of heart attack victims are considered to be at low or average risk by their doctor before their heart attack. With no outward symptoms, many thousands of people are not being identified early enough to receive the preventative treatment and advice that could save their life.
Each year around 120,000 people die in the UK from coronary heart disease. For the majority of those individuals their first sign was a heart attack with half of them dying immediately.
